When essential systems fail in a live hospitality environment, there’s no room for compromise. This recent project saw the Ref-Sol team step in to deliver a fast, efficient solution following the failure of a legacy rooftop chiller restoring comfort, protecting reputation, and keeping operations running smoothly.
The Challenge
The hotel’s existing Delonghi STAT/LN 0401 water chiller had reached the end of its lifespan and suffered a complete breakdown. Located on the roof, the unit had been responsible for maintaining comfortable temperatures across guest bedrooms, so its failure posed an immediate risk to both guest satisfaction and the hotel’s reputation.
With no climate control in place, the pressure was on to deliver a replacement that could:
-
Fit within the existing rooftop footprint
-
Meet modern energy efficiency standards
-
Be installed with minimal disruption in a fully operational hotel
All while working within tight time constraints and strict noise limitations.
The Solution
Following a full technical assessment, the Panasonic ECOi-W AQUA-ZC air-to-water heat pump chiller was selected as the ideal replacement.
This system offered:
-
High efficiency, significantly reducing running costs compared to the previous unit
-
A compact design, perfect for restricted rooftop spaces
-
Proven reliability, ensuring consistent comfort across all guest rooms
It was the perfect balance of performance, efficiency, and practicality for a demanding hospitality setting.
Execution & Implementation
Delivering this project required precision, planning, and what we like to call “invisible engineering” ensuring the hotel could continue operating without disruption.
Logistics & Lifting
With the unit positioned on the roof, a carefully coordinated crane lift was essential. This involved detailed planning and securing the necessary permits to safely remove the old system and install the new one, all while protecting guests, staff, and the public.

Mechanical & Electrical Integration
Once in position, our team carried out the full mechanical and electrical integration. Existing pipework was adapted to suit the new system, and all wiring was updated to meet current safety standards, ensuring a seamless transition.
Commissioning
Before handover, the system underwent a thorough commissioning process. Flow rates, pressure levels, and controls were all tested and optimised to guarantee peak performance from day one.
The Results
-
Delivered on Time
The full project, from crane lift to commissioning was completed within the agreed timeframe. -
Minimal Disruption
By scheduling key works during off-peak hours, guest impact was kept to an absolute minimum. -
Improved Guest Comfort
The hotel now benefits from a reliable, high-performance cooling solution, ensuring a consistently comfortable stay for every guest. -
Energy & Cost Savings
Upgrading to the Panasonic AQUA-ZC system has provided a more energy-efficient and cost-effective solution, supporting long-term operational savings.
Conclusion
This project is a great example of how Ref-Sol delivers under pressure. By replacing a failed, outdated system with the advanced Panasonic ECOi-W AQUA-ZC, we restored critical services quickly and efficiently—without compromising the guest experience.
In the fast-paced world of hospitality, reliability is everything. With the right expertise, planning, and technology, we make sure our clients stay one step ahead.
